The Every 28 Hour Plays with the Bats at the Flea

I will be participating in a staged reading of The Every 28 Hours Plays on Tuesday, October 25th at 7pm with a post-show discussion to follow. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and One-Minute Plays Festival asked 72 playwrights to respond to the statistic "Every 28 hours a black man is killed by police" by writing a one-minute play. Playwrights include Lynn Nottage, Tarell Alvin McCraney, David Henry Hwang, Dominique Morisseau, Neil LaBute, Robert Schenkkan, and scores more. The Flea will join theaters from across the country in presenting this work, brought to life by both the Bats and guest artists, including Tonya Pinkins.

#serials @ The Flea with The Bats

After participating in Cycle 36 and getting voted back with Francesca Pazniokas' This Is Not a Haunted House directed by Ellie Sachs, I will be returning to #serials for Cycle 37. However, due to scheduling, I will be working with a new team collaborating on Europa Prime written by Tommy Smith and directed by Kimille Howard.

In #serials@theflea, five teams of Bats perform original ten-minute episodic plays. The audience votes for its three favorite plays, which return the next week with a new installment. The teams with the two least popular stories must likewise come back the following week, but with entirely different serialized plays.

#serials tends to sell out quick, so purchase your tickets early here.

The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui with Cave Theatre Co. at Under St. Mark's

I am very excited to get to work on The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, produced by Cave Theatre Co. and going up October 6-16 at Under St. Mark's. Mirroring scenes from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Richard III, and Macbeth, Bertolt Brecht uses the tale of the rise of a Chicago gangster to comment on the rise of the Nazi Party -- with newfound relevance amidst the impending November election.

This Brecht-gangster-Shakespeare-Hitler fever dream promises outrageous comedy and character acting at its finest. With over 40 characters played by 8 actors, I will be responsible for some eight characters (Clark, Young Dogsborough, Dockdaisy, Bowl, The Actor, Ignatius Dullfeet, and several Grocers).
